I’m back with another Meet the Blogger interview with Abigail from Living the Gray Life. I found Abigail’s blog through one of my new favorite blogger Facebook groups, Gal Pal Girl Gang. If you’re not part of this group, definitely join it! It is a great way to connect with other bloggers, girl bosses, and creative chicas like Abigail! Check out my interview with her below:
Tell me a little about yourself:
I’m Abigail, and I’m a sophomore at the University of South Carolina studying computer information systems (think computer science and business merged into one). Cats are my favorite. Coffee is essential. Working out is a newfound passion. And, I live for DIY projects and hand lettering — hence my bullet journal obsession.
When did you start your blog and what got you motivated to start blogging?
I started my blog back in June of 2015, so I’m almost to my one year blogiversary! I started blogging because I always had that childhood dream to be a blogger chilling in her PJs on a Saturday morning drinking a steaming cup of coffee typing away on the computer blogging about life. But I also had just graduated high school, met Taylor Swift, and was headed off to my first year of college. I really wanted to be able to have a space to write about the big events in my life. After all, you only graduate high school once. I also dabble in web design and graphic design, so a blog is the perfect place to combine all of that into one!
How did you come up with the name Living the Gray Life?
Most people don’t know the story behind my blog name. Some people even think it’s a middle-aged blog because of the word “gray,” but that’s not the case at all! My middle name is Gray. I’ve always found it unique and wanted to feature it in some way.
How has your blog change since the beginning?
My blog has changed a lot since I first started. The writing now flows, the theme makes sense, and the pictures are above and beyond what they were before.
What is one thing that your blog readers probably don’t know about you?
I’m a musician! I’ve played the violin for over 10 years. Sadly I had to take a break during the school year because I just didn’t have time to fit it in. I also play the piano, guitar, and ukulele. The guitar and uke play a huge part in my songwriting as well!
You just finished your Freshman year of college, where do you hope to see your blog by the time you graduate?
Oh gosh. I didn’t even think I’d make it this far with my blog. I tend to start projects, go for about a month, and then stop because it’s not progressing the way I want or I just get bored. I do hope to keep blogging until I graduate, but I have no clue where I want it to be. I want the posts to still be genuine and I still find it fun to keep up.
What is the best compliment you’ve received?
For my blog? The other week I received two e-mails from people asking for my advice on blogging and college. Although it wasn’t a direct compliment, it made my day and meant a lot. It’s exciting to feel that the content you’re producing is helping people, and people want to reach out and hear more of your advice.
For myself? Probably the time that Taylor Swift complimented my red glasses. I never want to get rid of them now.
What is one piece of advice all bloggers need to hear to have a great blog?
Be yourself. Have fun. Don’t stress. As a blogger, you have to remember that this is your hobby! It’s something you enjoy doing, and if you find it being a burden to write, edit, and post, you don’t have to keep blogging. Also, most bloggers are extremely open to helping new and emerging bloggers! So never hesitate to shoot someone an e-mail asking for advice on how they got to where they are!
