So last weekend was big. So big that I need to make two separate blog posts because I am so excited about both of the things that happened that I need to dedicate individual posts for each! The first exciting thing that happened to me was I got engaged!! For those of you who don’t know here is our little backstory…
Our Story:
Paul and I met at my cousin’s destination wedding in Mexico in May, 2015. We became friends and over the summer while I was interning before my senior year out in Denver where he lived, we kept in touch and he even went out with me and my friends on my 21st birthday. We have been dating since May, 2016 “officially” but before May while I was still finishing my last year of school, Paul would fly out to Portland to visit me and I would fly to Denver to visit him many many times since December, 2015. The reason we were not “official” until May, 2016 was because Paul actually asked my dad for permission to date me and my dad said he would prefer if we waited until I graduated college so I could focus on my last couple of month. Hence the May 1st anniversary, which was the date I graduated college. I ended up getting a job here in Denver, which made the long distance non-existent.
How he Proposed:
On Friday, 2/16 another really exciting thing happened for me (announcement #2 for a different post) and Paul said he knew that it was the perfect time to propose so it could be a weekend for the books. Paul had picked out my ring a coupe weeks before and asked my dad for my hand in marriage on Thursday 2/15… of course he said yes because my dad absolutely loves Paul. The day started as any other Saturday morning. We went to Chik-fil-a and then to Target to pick up a couple of essentials. As we were getting back to Paul’s place I told him I was tired and wanted to take a nap so he said that’s perfect, I need to run to the golf pro shop (at the country club he belongs to for work) and pick out a club for tomorrow’s match. I told him that I wanted to go with him and he should wait until I napped. Luckily for him, I didn’t put up much of a fight and agreed he would “go to the golf pro-shop” while I slept and we would do something fun after. When I woke up, he said we’re going to go on an adventure before dinner that night so get dressed and let’s go! I asked if I could just wear what I was already wearing, which consisted of leggings, a long sleeve, fleece jacket and tennis shoes with my hair in a mess. Thank god he convinced me to dress up! We got in the car and started driving to Golden, Colorado and he said we were going to take a scenic drive. Keep in mind that is not abnormal for Paul to want to do. He is always down to take drives around the area and explore so I didn’t think twice. While we were driving around Mount Zion he said we should take a picture at one of the lookouts. I remember thinking that was odd, since Paul isn’t the one to suggest taking pictures in this relationship. But since I was wearing a cute outfit, I was down. We got out of the car and he propped up his phone on his trunk. Instead, of turning on the picture timer, he hit record and walked over to where I was ready to pose and proposed!! It took me a second to comprehend what was going on, but I was so so so happy!!! Also, the ring is gorgeous and just what I always envisioned! On the drive back down the mountain I called my parents and told everyone else that is important to me the good news right away. We stopped at a Mexican restaurant and had celebratory margaritas and then headed to a nail salon where Paul took me to get a pedicure and manicure. It was the perfect day and I am so excited to start this next chapter with Paul by my side.
Now what:
My mom and dad are so excited I am getting married to Paul! My mom has already been so helpful planning the big day, which tentatively set for the end of October 2018 in California where I grew up. I will be starting a wedding planning series on my blog so I can hopefully share what I learn along the way to help anyone else who will be planning a wedding soon. Stay tuned!
xoxo
