Rings have had a certain mystical property about them ever since they were being used as symbols. The wedding ring have also been a key symbol of power, eternity and of something precious. A large part of it has to do with the design, which can be stoic and simple, or ornate and delicate to make a few pairs in styles. However, it’s usually the materials that give a ring it’s true power, as gold, silver and precious stones are very valuable and rare. It takes a lot of effort to actually get these materials out of the ground, which partly adds to their worth. However, it’s also the attention to detail given to it’s design by a craftsman. The choice of stone is perhaps one of the most curious questions you need to ask yourself before you make any decisions.
Ravishing red
As you can imagine, one of the more popular precious stones is ruby. It’s rarer than emerald and sapphire but this means it also costs more. One thing that is clear, is that ruby holds a more romantic gravitas than the other two, and some might even say, more than diamond. Ruby was extremely popular with kingdoms from the Middle Ages, especially in the Western World. It was one of the foremost symbols of wealth and an advanced civilization that could actually cut and shape the stone, while not wasting as much of it as possible. Because ruby is a deep red color, it also symbolizes passion and love, as well as wealth. Due to the strength of the shade, you should try to offset it by getting a gold band for the ring. However, silver might make the stone look more dazzling, despite not being a traditional choice.
Rare pink
Pink stones aren’t as popular as a pure diamond but they are sought after because of the shade. Pink is somewhat rare in any kind of stone, which is why it is often more expensive than other similarly sized stones. If you’re wondering where you could find the perfect gemstone that has a pinkish tone, try browsing through the unique and rare gemstones collection. Lookout for the peach blush sapphire stone, as it has a 2.93cts rectangle cushion medium shape and size. Instantly recognizable, even from a distance, this stone is perhaps going to fit the best with a gold ring rather than silver. It can be accompanied with diamonds but more often than not, you don’t want to take away from the rarity of the pink gemstone, so you may want to leave it bare.
Enchanting purple
A stone that is almost inseparable from the culture of fantasy, is Alexandrite. This mesmerizing purple stone is one that is also favored by royalty but more so for young princesses rather than queens or kings. For one thing, the color is rare but doesn’t hold the power of ruby nor the lust for the rarer pink gemstone. So what you have is something that’s almost as elegant but not quite. Alexandrite makes for a beautiful engagement, or anniversary ring. However, this gemstone might be better worn in necklace or earring form. This is because it goes extremely well with high-quality silver, which helps to lighten the stone by bouncing light into it. Purple is slightly darker than red, so it needs a little more help from natural light to bring out it’s true qualities. However, it symbolizes youth and intelligence and because of this it was worn by the youthful aristocratic class in The Renaissance time period. It may also be worn by those in the religious class, as it’s not too boastful but still shows you have great taste. Alexandrite does very will with the support of small diamonds, bordering it in any jewelry piece.
Gemstones have their cultural and historical importance, some more than others. Ruby is linked to power, wealth and royalty which is why it’s still worth more than almost every other stone. However, because pink shades are so rare, no matter what stone you get if it is pink, the uniqueness encompasses it with even more significance. Alexandrite is one of those stones that you don’t see often which it a joy to examine when you finally do get a chance. Subtle yet very tasteful, it would do well in a ring but just as well as earrings.
