Can you believe it?! A post that is not what we ate for dinner during the week! Don’t worry though, I have another one going live tomorrow;)
With restaurants still closed for dining in and pretty much any other date idea not an option due to COVID-19, Paul and I decided to have a charcuterie picnic at a random grassy area across the street. I don’t think the plot of land was big enough for a house, so it is just an area with grass that neighbors sometimes walk their dogs by. I am sure we looked a little funny trekking down the street with a charcuterie platter and setting up in the middle of the grassy area. We wanted to make sure we were actually adhering to social distancing guidelines so we avoided popular parks in the Denver area and went with this random patch of grass 50 yards from our house.
I received this Holt & Oden picnic backpack from a family friend at my bridal shower almost two years ago. It was such a cute and thoughtful gift, I am embarrassed to say that this was the first time we used it. The bag comes with everything you can think of for a picnic. It has a blanket, side pouch that is a cooler for a wine bottle (or other beverage), utensils, plates, napkins, and the main portion is insulated to keep your food hot or cold.
To be honest, curating a plentiful charcuterie board can get pricey. Buying specialized meats and cheeses does add up, so just a heads up if you aren’t looking to drop $40+ on a picnic. We also picked out a cheap bottle of white wine but forgot to chill it first so it was lukewarm on the 75 degree afternoon. Our chocolate also quickly melted, but hey, it is chocolate so it tasted good even with the mess.
Whether you do sandwiches and a bag of chips or go the charcuterie route, picnics with your quarantine buddy are a fun way to get out of the house! Feel free to comment down below what fun date ideas you have durning these uncertain times.
