Welcome back to the final post in my Kauai Travel Series (catch up on the last three posts here, here and here)! On day five of the trip, we drove from Poipu Bay over to the north shore for the day. The north shore is so beautiful and even more lush than the south shore. Although it is a little more touristy, we still found our own secluded sections of the beach.
Ha’ena Beach
Okay, so I’ll preface this by saying our goal was to go to Tunnels Beach for the first stop of the day. If you aren’t familiar, it is extremely difficult to find parking and the entrance to Tunnels Beach, so we ended up driving up the road to Ha’ena Beach. After a brief encounter with a very angry and determined tourist parked in the center of the parking lot waiting for a spot to open up, we backed up (he literally would not move to let us out) and drove a further up the road to find street parking. It ended up being for the best, because we found a separate entrance and hiked down very vacant section of Ha’ena Beach.
Hanalei Beach
After we wrapped up at Ha’ena Beach, we decided to check out Hanalei Beach before we grabbed lunch at Hanalei Poke. Storm clouds rolled in, but we never ended up getting rained on. If you are deciding between staying on the north shore or south shore, apparently the north shore is notoriously rainier. But both sides of the island have a lot to offer. Even if it does rain, the storm clouds tend to roll through pretty quickly.
