Two months after our trip to Kauai, I am back with a review of our first class flight from Denver to Lihue. Paul and I have been traveling a lot, both for work and personal, so we have been acquiring points and status on United. We like to treat ourselves to a longer first class flight each year so we decided to splurge on points on our trip to and from Kauai. As usual, I failed to capture many pictures because I didn’t want to look like a noob, but I still managed to snap a few for this post. Also be sure to check out my travel day vlog for video footage of the flight.
Seating:
Even though the flight to Lihue from Denver is a smaller aircraft because it isn’t as popular of a route as Honolulu or Maui, the 757-200 still had a 2×2 first class formation with flat bed seats. In the first class cabin, seats have a length of up to 6 feet 4 inches and a full 180-degree recline. The aircraft to Lihue was much more updated than our flight home and featured a private TV, plenty of storage, and the option to fully recline.
Service:
If you read my review from our first class United flight to Honolulu last year, you’ll remember the service was less than ideal. I will attribute the subpar food and service to COVID protocols, so this year my expectations were higher. Fortunately, the crew was amazing and the food wasn’t too bad. We had pre-departure champagne, followed by a very attentive purser and flight attendant checking in throughout the flight. In last year’s review, I also noted that if you wanted another drink, you had to track down a flight attendant because the crew was hanging out in the front galley behind a curtain a majority of the flight. The crew on this flight were so prompt that I think the couple in front of us went through 6 bottles of wine.
Other thoughts:
The boarding was seamless and there was an ok selection of onboard entertainment. There definitely is a difference in entertainment options depending on your aircraft, so keep that in mind. Even though we were also on a 757-200 on the way home, the selection of movie options was cut in half. I recommend downloading a few movies and shows on your personal device ahead of your flight just in case you run into the same problem. Overall, if I were to give a rating for the experience, the first class seats were a 9/10 and the service a 8/10. The food was nothing to write home about, but the friendly crew and comfortable seats made for a great flight.
I hope you enjoyed this first class review. Be sure to check out some of my other reviews on Delta, United, another United flight, and JetBlue.
