Paul and I are hosting Thanksgiving for the first time this year at our house, which I am so excited about. We have the best of both worlds because we get to stay at home and we don’t have to cook every single dish. Paul is going to smoke turkey in his Traeger and I am going to make brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The rest of the dishes are coming from Paul’s parents and siblings, who will be joining us at our house. We are fortunate that both of our parents live in Colorado so over the past few years we rotate the holidays. Despite Thanksgiving having the normal rotation, this year’s Christmas plans are a little different because we were stuck at home with COVID last year. We will be splitting up Christmas day at my parent’s house in the morning and then Paul’s parents in the afternoon. It isn’t the most ideal situation to drive all over God’s green earth on Christmas Day, but we are thankful to spend time with both sides of the family. Anyway, now that you know the ins and outs of our family holiday schedule, back to the point of this post; my Thanksgiving table setting.
I’m always in awe of the gorgeous table settings you see in magazines and home decor websites. While I love making the dinner table festive, I cannot justify dropping hundreds of dollars for themed dinnerware that you will use once a year. Instead, I like finding staple pieces like these Craft Birch Beige Cotton Fringe Napkins and Marcella Infinity White Napkin Rings from Crate and Barrel. We’ll definitely use these at other dinner parties throughout the year. I ended up finding the fall foliage centerpiece from Kohl’s on sale a few weeks ago and the candles are a reoccurring addition on the table from Amazon. Side note, we leave close to a Kohl’s and it is our new favorite spot. Not to mention, they recently added a Sephora, which makes it even better.
Paul’s parents gave us their old Christmas china last year, but for Thanksgiving (and every other dinner party), we use our Crate and Barrel Roulette dinner set that we purchased two years ago. In case you didn’t already notice in the picture, two of our salad bowls were in the dishwasher, so the setup was a tad bit incomplete. We also recently purchased matching drinkware, which was a fairly inexpensive addition. You know you’re an adult when you get excited about matching dinnerware.
I always like to top off my table settings with name cards. Everyone gets along so specific seating arrangements is thankfully not an issue. I usually just assign seating based on who is the tallest to ensure there is enough space. Everyone on Paul’s side of the family are 5’8 or taller, so comfort is key.
I hope you enjoyed this post! It is a little different than what I normally blog about, but I loved how the table setting turned out so I had to share. Happy Thanksgiving and stay turned for a fun travel series coming soon!
