I am back with another ‘Meet the YouTuber’ featuring one of my favs, Carrie from 615CareBear! I started watching Carrie’s videos a couple months ago and have been hooked since. She is absolutely stunning and has a genuine personality… not to mention she has made some hilarious videos (my favs are HERE and HERE). Check out my interview with her below:
1. When did you make your first video? I actually made a “Spring Haul” video on my channel as my very first video at the end of April 2013. But it was SO awful and cringey – iPhone quality, bad hair, bad jokes, etc. – so it’s not on my channel anymore. Haha! I started regularly uploading videos in the fall of 2013…that are actually still pretty embarrassing.
2. What is the story behind your username 615carebear? I watched YouTube videos for years and years before I ever made a channel of my own, so my username was basically just an account I had so I could subscribe to my favorite channels and comment on videos. Carebear is a nickname I’ve had since I was a baby, and 615 is actually my area code here in Nashville. Represent!
3. What motivated you to start making YouTube videos and how has it impacted your life so far? The very first time I found Ingrid (missglamorazzi)’s channel, I binge watched all of her videos for hours and hours. I felt like she was such a normal girl that I’d want to be best friends with in “real life”. I was captivated by her channel. So I kind of thought to myself, I could do this! I’ve always had a love for beauty and fashion, and especially making people laugh and entertaining them. So I went for it! It took me a little while to find my niche, but honestly, starting my channel is hands down the best decision I’ve ever made in my entire life. Besides finding myself entirely, I’ve also met so many incredible people and have even made real friendships that I’ll have for a lifetime.
4. Who are your favorite YouTubers to watch? Oh my gosh, there are so many! I watch YouTube videos WAY too much. Some of my favorites are of course Ingrid Nilsen still, Grace Helbig, Meghan Rienks, Mamrie Hart, Lilly Singh, Jessi Smiles is AMAZING, Colleen Ballinger/Miranda Sings, Rachel Whitehurst, Zoella, Meghan Tonjes, Kalel, the list could go on and on and on…Can you tell I love a good strong, hilarious, confident woman representing on YouTube?! π
5. How do you describe yourself in three words? Sensitive. Long-winded. Hungry.
6. What are your aspirations both with YouTube and outside your channel within the next couple of years? I would love to watch my channel continue to grow, and watch my content continue to evolve. I want my channel to be an extension of who I am, not just me applying makeup or showing you what I bought at Forever 21. Although I’ll still do that sometimes. In the next couple of years I’d love to incorporate music into my channel with covers and originals, as well as start doing more in-person collabs! Outside my channel, I’d love to just continue growing as a person. Learning about myself, making mistakes, growing true friendships, and hopefully moving somewhere WARM! (I’m looking at you, California…) And DOGS. MORE DOGS.
7. You have such a genuine and confident personality, what is your advice for young women to gain self confidence? That is an amazing compliment, thank you so much! I was not and am not always confident. It has been a long, grueling journey to get to this point, and I’m still going through it. But one thing I’ve learned to stop doing that has helped my confidence really flourish is to quit constantly comparing myself to other women. Instead of thinking I’m “different” or “weird”, I celebrate my individuality now. It sounds cheesy, but I also make it a point to truly and genuinely compliment myself as well as someone else every single day. Somehow by doing that, it helps bring my own confidence up along with just making me (and someone else hopefully) feel really good.
8. What advice do you have for anyone looking to start a YouTube channel and/or blog? I would absolutely say to just DO IT! Put yourself out there. But make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and because it truly makes you happy, not to seek “fame” or money. You will have an absolute blast!
