This was the first year I came home so close to Christmas. The past four years while I was at college, I always had a week at home before Christmas to get in the spirit and partake in some of my family’s traditions. However, this year coming home from Denver where you can find me at the office 87% of the time, I came home late on December 21st. Needless to say, it did not feel like Christmas was a couple days away. In today’s post, instead of DIY last minute gifts, I decided to share with y’all my family’s Christmas traditions:
Christmas Tree:
Ever since I was young we always would get our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. Except for the years when my sister and I had soccer tournaments in SoCal. We usually head to Apple Hill in Northern California or Silveyville in Dixon, California. I like the play the game how quickly can we find a tree and meanwhile my mom likes to look at every tree. When we get home we decorate the tree and listen to Christmas music so our tree can be up until after the Holidays.
Christmas Movies:
Our go-to movies are Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, Home Alone 1 and Home Alone 2.
Hot Chocolate Bar:
Forget booze (although I like my wine). My family is all hot chocolate. My mom sets up a hot chocolate bar complete with hot chocolate mix, sprinkles, marshmallows, candy canes and other toppings.

Christmas Cookies:
My mom, sister and I always whip up our go-to Christmas cookie assortment. We make chocolate crinkles, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies and peppermint bark. We always make wayyyy too many and then we wrap them up in decorative containers and pass them out to friends and family. Check out my post from 2014 and 2015 (HERE and HERE).
Jake always likes to help bake cookies!
Those are a couple of my family’s Christmas traditions! What does your family like to do during the Holidays?
