As many of you know, I purchased my first home back in April and was able to move in May 14th. You have no idea how excited I was to finally be in my own place. I have loved decorating and making my space my own. As part of my first home blog series, I wanted to share a couple home tips ranging from storage to electronics!
Making everything in your home athestically pleasing isn’t an easy task. For decades, the best industrial and product designers in the world have been those who are able to make the work of engineers into something worth looking at. To begin this process, you will need to look at the different parts of your home separately.
Heating: For a long time, most homes have been stuck with radiators which take up loads of wall space and don’t do much for the appearance of your home. Nowadays, though, you have some options to hide them away. Underfloor membrane heaters have become very popular in recent times, giving you the chance to hide all but the controls for this part of the home. In my house, all my furnance and other ‘not cute’ appliances are hidden away in my laundry room.
Storage: When you have kids, keeping a home tidy can feel like an impossible task, with objects like toys and games filling every conceivable space. Even without kids, it is easy for my place to become cluttered, even being the clean freak I am. Proper storage is a great way to handle this, and hiding it will be essential if you want to keep your home in the best shape. Companies like Deconovo have loads of options which can be used to store items around your home without looking like cupboards or shelves. Sofas and beds can all make excellent places to keep things hidden.
Entertainment: A couple of decades ago, it was very popular to have as much entertainment equipment on display in your home as possible. Stereos, TVs, and other devices were all much larger than today’s examples, and didn’t provide nearly as many of the features. A modern smart speaker, for example, can provide services like internet searching and phone calls, all while looking like a fun piece of art. Even televisions have gone down this route, with some of the best examples on the market being mistakable for a window.
Control: Along with entertainment, modern users are also very partial to systems which enable them to control their home in new and subtle ways. Light switches, TV remotes, and all sorts of other buttons and knobs can be completely replaced by your mobile phone. Giving you the chance to keep your rooms entirely focused on the things which make them look good!
Power: There are so many awesome wireless charging options. Giving you the ability to simply place your phone on a piece of furniture and have it charging in seconds, this has opened the doors for those tired of seeing cables across each of their tables and desks. I personally hate when cords are showing!
There are a ton of tools out there which enable you to keep the functions of the place hidden behind a beautiful face. As a big part of this, though, you can’t forget about the style element, and will need to work very hard to achieve the sort of looks you like. To help with this, skim through blogs which are dedicated to DIY, and you can even find inspiration by scrolling through Instagram. It’s always worth putting time into find the exact styles you want to capture with the space available.
Hopefully, this post will inspire you to spice up your interior design. Finding ways to add function to a home is a challenge, and a lot of people struggle to make their dreams come true. By taking the right approach, though, you can make the whole thing much easier.
xoxo
