Last Thursday was my birthday and so Paul (my fiance) planned a weekend getaway to the Colorado mountains. He booked a 3 night stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado which is about 3-3.5 hours west of Denver. My company gives employees their birthday off so I instead took Friday off so I could have a 3-day weekend full of relaxation and exploring.
We got to Glenwood Springs around 5:30pm on Thursday evening and checked into the Courtyard Marriott hotel. If you are looking for a place to stay in Glenwood Springs, I highly recommend the Courtyard Marriott. Everything was super clean and the staff is very attentive to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Once we unpacked, we headed to The Pullman in downtown Glenwood Springs for a birthday dinner. To be honest, I was expecting a little more based on the prices and the ambiance. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I got the mac & cheese and Paul got a burger. The menu is quite different, so if you are a big foodie who enjoys trying different flavor combinations and are okay paying a little more, then this is a place you should try.
On Friday morning we got up a little early to go white water rafting. We booked the trip through Defiance Rafting in Glenwood Springs and overall had a good time. We chose the half-day rafting trip, which is about 2 hours on the Colorado River. The beginning of the rafting trip was a lot of fun and was the best rapids of the day. After about 45 minutes it turned into more of a quiet float down the river and I started to get hungry and tired towards the end of the 2 hours. After rafting, we got burgers from Grind and then took a 3 hour nap. Friday evening we headed back downtown for dinner at Riviera Super Club. Overall, it was pretty good and I enjoyed that meal more than The Pullman. The only downside is the building is so small that all the tables are seated very closely together.
Saturday was our last full day in Glenwood Springs and it turned out to be an interesting one. Paul booked a spa day at Yampah Spa, which included massages, pedicure, manicure and access to the vapor caves all day. The massage was amazing and just what I have been wanting for awhile. During my pedicure is where things got interesting. I ended up fainting and the paramedics were called. I have a history of fainting so before it happened I could tell what was going on so I told Paul, “I am about to faint” just as I went out. I guess I was out for 15-20 seconds, which is probably the longest I’ve ever fainted so it was quite scary. I chose not to go to the hospital because that ambulance ride would have put a huge dent in my wallet AND most importantly, I was feeling better. The rest of the day we hung out in the hotel room and then capped the day with some Taco Bell. And don’t worry, I have already made a doctor’s appointment here in Denver to get checked out.
Saturday was quite a turn of events, but overall I had a good birthday weekend in Glenwood Springs. If you have traveled anywhere in Colorado comment down below! I would love to get more ideas of fun weekend trips Paul and I can take in the future!
xoxo
