Winter is a time that’s particularly tough on your body. We tend to move less, as the cold weather discourages us from being active with pursuits such as jogging or cycling – plus, we have the holidays which are filled with less than healthy food.
In addition, the cold weather can be really damaging to your skin and hair (especially here in Colorado!). A common cause of dehydration and dry skin in winter is actually more to do with being indoors and not getting enough Vitamin D (via sunlight). Central heating can also dry your skin so I recommend utilizing a humidifier.
The three areas you can focus on this winter are your smile, your skin, and your eyes:
YOUR SMILE
While your smile is not negatively affected by the cold weather, it’s a time where you can give your teeth a little TLC. Cosmetic dentistry is actually very popular this time of year. I personally am looking into getting whitening treatments to combat all the coffee I have been drinking!
You can also do this by using homemade remedies such as oil pulling, apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Deeply colored drinks such as coffee and red wine will stain your teeth – so it’s important to clean your teeth more regularly.
YOUR SKIN
One of the most overlooked aspects of keeping healthy skin in addition to treating your face with a decent beauty regime, is to consider what you are putting into your body. You need to ensure you feed your skin from the inside out as well as the outside in. This means consuming foods that feed your skin; many of which are tasty and inexpensive – such as avocado, oily fish and bananas.
YOUR EYES
There are many natural ways to keep your eyes looking refreshed, for instance, placing chilled cucumber or cold tea bags over your eyes in order to reduce puffiness. This is a perfect thing to do on a relaxing day at home. The best approach, if you’re using teabags, is to place two chamomile or green tea bags in hot water for one minute (which is just enough time to ensure they release the antioxidants and tannins essential for the replenishment of the eye area) then refrigerate the tea bags for at least ten minutes. You want them enough to have an inflammation reducing effect. Once they are chilled, place them on your eyes for around ten minutes.
Now it is your turn! Comment down below your go to beauty routine for the winter.
