It has been quite awhile since I have shared a recipe post here on Miss Olivia Says. Life has been busy, but I do love to cook and entertain so I am hoping in 2019 I can share more of that on my blog. In today’s post, I am featuring my quick and easy cheese plate featuring Pecorino Romano cheese from Uncommon Flavors. What I love most about this cheese plate is its simplicity! With a couple wedges of Pecorino Romano in my fridge, I can whip out a yummy cheese plate when we have some friends coming over last minute. Just add the Pecorino Romano and a couple other goodies, and you are ready to entertain and indulge.
Before collaborating with Uncommon Flavors, I actually had never heard of Pecorino Romano. This cheese is actually made with all natural milk from sheep who graze on wild pastures filled with native flora in the Italian regions of Sardinia, Lazio and the province of Grosseto. In this area of the world, Pecorino Romano PDO can only be made from fresh whole sheep’s milk from October to July. In order to get the real deal, make sure you look for Pecorino Romano PDO to ensure it is authentic. Fun fact, Romano cheese is not the same as Pecorino Romano! Romano cheese isn’t even made with sheep’s milk and not all Pecorinos the same!
Not only does Pecorino Romano come with some interesting history, Uncommon Flavors of Europe is actually a campaign funded by the European Union to promote Asiago and Pecorino Romano cheeses and Speck Alto Adige ham, three foods that bare the EU symbols of excellence. These symbols, PDO and PGI, guarantee the products are from the official place of origin and that they adhere to strict production standards that have been in place for hundreds of years. Find more information about each product (milk, production, area of origin) at https://uncommoneurope.eu/.
Back to my quick and easy cheese plate… In addition to the Pecorino Romano (of course), I add whatever kind of cracker I have on hand. In this case, I had some pita chips so I added a handful to the plate. If I don’t have any meat, I will add something like banana peppers. You can also add a yummy jam, olives, mustard, etc. Just get creative with it!
What are your go to cheese plate recipes! Comment down below, I am always looking for fun new things to add.
