In Your Twenties
You might have just ventured into your first job or be a student at the University of Southern California, either way your twenties are a time for growing and learning and the same could be said about your skin care and cosmetic range.
You may have skin issues hanging over from your teenage years so this stage of your life is all about establishing a great skin care routine.
Check out this vegan skin care collection from REN. Nourishing, kind and gentle on your skin, this product comes in at a reasonable price and makes it an affordable way to end your day.
Now is also the time to start wearing sunscreen, one of the best ways to avoid ageing and block out the harmful rays from the sun on your skin. Always take your makeup off at the end of the day and give your skin time to breathe and rejuvenate.
In Your Thirties
You should have established a great routine that works well for your skin and leaves it feeling fresh and radiant. You also know that drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin free from blemishes.
At this point the only real change you might want to consider is adding in some deeper penetrating moisturiser. Your skin may need a little extra nourishment as you age, so look out for products such as Utopia and feel that deeper nourishment going into your skin.
Your Forties
At this stage in life you’re skin will need even more intense moisturiser as it may feel like its losing some elasticity and plumpness.
Look for products that contain enzymes and a high factor of sun protection. You may also want to consider adding in an acid peel treatment once a week. This isn’t as scary as it sounds and in fact just strips away older dead skin and exposes fresh bright skin. You can carry out a peel more frequently depending on your skin type but for most people, once weekly will be adequate. Continue using sun protection and think carefully about how your lifestyle is impacting your skin.
If you haven’t already then certainly consider giving up smoking and upping your water intake.
Your Fifties
At this age you’ll be looking to exfoliate, cleanse and moisturise as usual but also ditch any heavy or harsh soaps that will strip your more delicate skin of moisture.
You’ll also want to think about lowering the water temperature when you clean your face. This part of the routine is all about caring for your skin which will have become more delicate as you age.
You’ll probably be using an anti-ageing serum and we recommend Secret-a-Tube’s anti-ageing products that are effective as well as being cruelty-free and vegan. You might also want to add a Retinol product into your regime that will give your skin a lift. Finally think about changing up your moisturiser to one that helps lock in moisture, particularly at night when your skin is repairing itself. Dry skin will exaggerate wrinkles, so getting a good quality moisturiser is essential.
Growing older is inevitable but staying beautiful at any age is entirely possible. Our skin care needs change as we grow older and it’s important to pay attention to what’s going on below the surface.
The things you can get away with in your twenties will damage your skin in your forties and fifties. The trick is to start those great, healthy habits off when you’re young so they become something like second nature to you as you age.
You will need to adjust your routine as you age. Changing up levels of moisturiser, adding in extras that brings out the best in your skin. You will probably see your cosmetic routine changing too to adjust with the changes to your look. You may want to soften the kohl around the eyes or bring it down from black to softer greys and dark browns, depending on your skin colour.
