Right down the street from our new house is a yummy smoothie shop that Paul and I pick up from quite often. I got hooked on a smoothie from there and it is my new favorite. However, like any guilty pleasure, if you are buying your favorite treat multiple times a week it is going to add up.
I decided to venture out to King Soopers and pick up ingredients to re-create my favorite $5 smoothie and save some money. It took a couple of tries, but I think I nailed down the recipe.
As stated in the title, this isn’t going to be your lean and green smoothie. Although it has a lot of natural sugars from the fruit, there are some additives from the fro-yo, almond milk and honey.
Ingredients:
- 1 banana
- 4-5 strawberries (I use frozen, but fresh work too)
- 1/3 cup of blueberries (again, I use frozen, but fresh work)
- 2-3 scoops of frozen non-fat vanilla yogurt.
- 1/2 cup of almond milk. Feel free to add more or less liquid depending on the consistency you prefer. The official recipe from the smoothie shop is non-fat milk, but almond milk is a little easier on my stomach
- Honey! This is the secret ingredient. I would say I add 2-3 tablespoons worth.
- Optional: if you want to add some greens to make it a little more healthy, add some spinach if you so choose.
Instructions:
- Add ingredients to a blender…. and blend.
Simple, delicious and (semi-healthy). Comment down below if you try it out!
