These days, it’s common to buy almost everything from the internet. Whether it’s your groceries, electronics, books, or even jewelry, there’s probably some online store that will sell it to you and even offer next day delivery for your convenience. However, there are usually some things that we generally wouldn’t suggest buying online.
Jewelry falls into this category for many reasons. It’s hard to tell if something is real or fake when you buy online from an unknown seller, and pictures can be manipulated to make something look a lot nicer than it actually is in real life. But with that said, there are still some situations where it simply makes sense to buy jewelry online. So if you’re looking to expand your jewelry collection, here are some important tips to keep in mind before you pay for something.

If the store has a physical location that’s open, try and visit to see the product in person
If the store that you want to buy from has a physical store then we’d highly suggest that you go and visit them to see it in person. This is a great way to ensure that photographs do the jewelry piece justice. These days, it’s very easy for photographs to be manipulated to make jewelry look a lot nicer than it actually is.
By getting to see the product in person, you can try it on and double-check that it’s actually how you expected it to look and feel.
Always look at reviews, especially if you don’t know the brand very well or the store
Always look at reviews for a store. In fact, even if you know the brand from a high street retailer or have heard of their name in the past, it’s never a bad idea to look at reviews of the online retailer. Both the retailer and the brand should be examined thoroughly before you make a purchase. Sometimes the brand itself is great but the retailer does a poor job at packaging products. Other times, it’s the other way around and the retailer might be great but the product is the problem.

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is and you should avoid it
There are loads of fake jewelry websites online and there are also marketplaces that will occasionally see fake jewelry listed on their store. A great example of this is Amazon’s own marketplace. Since any seller can list items on Amazon, you might see great-looking jewelry with amazing pictures and decide to buy it. Unfortunately, the seller could be a scammer or they could sell you a low-quality product that looks nothing like the pictures.
These situations are all too common, so make sure you avoid anything that is too good to be true.
