Not everyone is interested in wearing traditional braces due to their conspicuousness. Fortunately, some orthodontic treatment alternatives can straighten your teeth without making you feel overly conscious. Thanks to technology, modern orthodontic treatments have 100% success rates, making them highly favorable. Moreover, they are affordable and give the desired results. Therefore, if you’re thinking of treatment soon, you will find these points valuable as you make a decision.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners have become increasingly popular due to their dissimilarity to traditional braces. With a plastic-like appearance, clear aligners look like a mini tray that fits the individual teeth to correct alignment issues. What’s more, you are responsible for inserting and removing your aligners. However, before you get it, your orthodontist would take accurate measurements to secure the right fit for your mouth and teeth.
Ideally, each aligner must be worn for a period of two or three weeks. During this period, your dentition is expected to align by a fraction of a millimeter. Additionally, you may be required to remove the aligners when about to eat, brush or floss. Moreover, they can be removed to attend a special occasion. Keep in mind that no two aligners are the same. The reason being, every patient has peculiar orthodontic problems that require specific alignment correction.
Retainer
These orthodontic devices tend to be a cheaper alternative to braces. Although retainers are purposed for correcting minor or slight imperfections, they are 100% effective in performance and outcome. In other situations, it is used by a patient who has had ‘active’ orthodontic work done and needs a simple device to reinforce the teeth. For example, someone who has worn braces for a long time can be moved on to a tight retainer (by the orthodontist) to straighten dentition.
As a precaution, you should never wear your dental retainers when engaged in active sports or a swimming session, no matter how leisurely it is. Apart from water, any beverage you consume must be done with your retainers taken out of your mouth. Sometimes, people forget to wear their retainers (a downside of being removable) for days. For this reason, experts advise that you wear your retainers full-time for at least five to seven days to realign your teeth again. Better yet, wear them every night for better results.
Lingual Braces
If you are particularly concerned about the aesthetics of orthodontic treatments, lingual braces will be your best option. These medical devices are designed to sit or fit behind your teeth (the underside of your teeth). Therefore, nobody can see them on your teeth whenever you smile or talk. You and your orthodontist will be the only ones privy to the presence of fitted lingual braces. They are equally effective for straightening misaligned dentition as the traditional ones.
In conclusion, there are other alternatives to traditional braces if you want to straighten your teeth. Moreover, they are easy on the pocket, and even that does not compromise quality or functions.
