2022 flew by and this year I wanted to come up with some personal resolutions. I’m not typically a New Year’s resolutions girlie, but I got to thinking, and I have a few things I want to focus on. If you missed last year’s resolutions post, I kept it generic and shared a few goals that anyone can implement into their day to day. This year’s goals are relevant to me and what I hope to accomplish and continuing to focus on in 2023.
Continue to prioritize exercise: Growing up, I was an athlete so exercise has always been second nature to me. Once I went off to college, I continued to prioritize working out, but quickly realized that when I’m not playing soccer 4-5 times a week, I have to put in the work to stay in shape. Fast forward to the real world, I use exercise as a way to cope with stress and feel strong. We purchased a Peloton Treadmill 3 months ago, and I have been glued to that thing since. Working out is all about balance and in 2023, I want to continue to hold myself accountable sticking to my two Orange Theory workouts a week and then utilizing our home gym the other 3-4 days in the week. I also want to remind myself that it’s okay to take it easy and still feel strong. On days where maybe I feel a little lazy, do a Peloton hiking class or take Rex on a longer walk than usual.
Find joy in the weekdays: I think it is so common for adults to live for the weekend, and while it is great to look forward to fun plans, I want to find joy in the weekdays too. I’ve talked about this a few times on the blog, but especially during the winter, I find myself bored after work and just waiting around to make dinner and then go to bed. During the summer, we do a good job of spicing up the work week with afternoon golf rounds, but it is those cold and dark winter weeknights that can be depressing. A few ideas I can implement include:
- Switch a date night out we would typically save for a Friday or Saturday and go out to dinner during the week
- Cook a more involved recipe for dinner
- Bake something new
- Read a book
- Do an evening yoga class
- At home spa night
- Find a Groupon experience
- Go get pedicures (yes, Paul enjoys pedicures too)
Have more self-care Sundays: While Sundays already are a little slower, I would love to make it more of a priority to wind down Sunday nights and prepare for the week. Often times I don’t want to think about the upcoming work week ahead, but starting the week on the right foot will make Monday morning a little less bleak. Little things such as doing a face mask, reading, meal prepping, etc. can help start the week off right.
Read a book a month: I go through reading phases, but a book a month is a goal I am certain I can accomplish. During the summer I find myself in less of a reading mood, but if I force myself to sit down with my iPad, I am usually very content with my decision to read. I plan on reactivating my Kindle Unlimited subscription and dedicating a night a week to read.
Explore more on work trips: I have a few work trips already lined up in the next few months, so I want to make it a goal to make the most out of work travel. Not every city is ideal, but it is a great way to put myself outside my comfort zone and make the trip more than just work. I am already off to a good start with Paul and one of my friends lined up to join me on two different trips.
Unplug after work: I’ll preface by saying my current role is 10x less stressful than my previous position. However, after a few years in a high stress job, I developed the habit of not being about to unplug for the evening. Constantly checking emails, Slack notifications, and bringing work stress into my weeknights became the norm. Even though the stress isn’t always there when I am responding to emails at 7:45pm at night, it can bleed into my ability to relax. In 2023, I want to be stricter about actually unplugging. Whether that is avoiding clicking on the Gmail and Slack apps on my phone while I am aimlessly watching TV or actually waiting until the morning to respond to an email. Easier said than done, but being mindful is a good place to start.
Blog more: I should probably specify and make this goal ‘blog more during the summer’ because we all know I got MIA. Regardless, I love blogging and looking back on posts throughout the years. I want to continue to take pride in my blog and creating content that is enjoyable (even if only a few people read it).
And that’s a wrap on my top of mind resolutions! Comment down below what your top goals for 2023 are.
