I concluded my fourth work trip this year in early April by visiting Atlanta, Georgia for a conference. I was jealous of the majority of people on my flight who were heading to The Masters, while I would be spending a few days at a tech conference. Regardless, I hadn’t been outside of the ATL airport before so I was excited to venture somewhere new. The conference my team was sponsoring took place at the World Congress Center, which is pretty much downtown. I stayed at the Glenn Hotel, which is operated by Marriott and a short 10 minute walk from the venue. I think I mentioned that when I originally started traveling for work, I was planning on sticking with the Hyatt brand, however, I have found a majority of places I travel have better options for Marriott so I have made the switch.
Please note, I did not pay for this room with my own money. Because it was a work trip, my expenses were covered by my company.
I booked the Glenn Hotel using my company’s travel portal. I am able to connect any airline and hotel status directly to the portal so I can continue earning points while traveling for work. The Glenn Hotel is on the smaller side, but offers a restaurant, bar and roof top lounge. Check-in was seamless and the room had a boutique aesthetic with some hints of creepy decor. My colleague (who was also traveling from Denver) and I were joking it might be haunted based on the age of the building. However, I can verify that I did not experience any paranormal activity.
Overall, the room was pretty clean and housekeeping came each day to refresh and they also restocked the free bottled water. Compared to other hotels I have stayed in downtown, there is not a lot within walking distance to the Glenn. There are a handful of restaurants, but no coffee shops, drugstores, or shopping. When I travel for work, I like to stop at a drugstore to pick up waters and snacks for my room, but there weren’t any options close by. I ended up doing my normal routine and ordering Door Dash both evenings for dinner. After a full day chatting with people at the conference, nothing is better than a quiet dinner in my hotel room to recharge the social batteries.
I also took advantage of the fitness center during my stay. Both times I worked out, I had the place to myself. While the fitness center is small, it was very clean and they offered free bottle water.
The only complaint I have is I tried to inquire about reserving meeting space for an event my team was planning on coordinating in conjunction with the conference. The hotel originally let me know bookings open a month out and when I reached out again, I never heard back about pricing. It ended up working out because my team decided to not plan the event, but I noticed the meeting rooms were vacant during my stay.
