Oops – here I am almost three months since we returned from our Europe trip finally getting around to reviewing some of the hotels we stayed at. Better late than never, am I right? In today’s post, I wanted to share my thoughts of Hotel Barberini, located in the heart of Rome. Of course, I failed miserably at taking pictures of the room, but I did manage to do a room tour in the first vlog from the trip. You can check that out here.

First Impressions:
Paul and I had quite the travel day getting from Denver to Rome. After delays and downgraded seats, we made it to Italy a few hours later than initially planned. Long story short, our flight from Denver to Dulles was delayed so we missed the 5:30pm flight to Rome and were rebooked on the 10:30pm flight. It ended up being a bit of a blessing because we would have been wandering around the city on a few hours of sleep if we arrived at the originally schedule time of 8:30am. The check-in process was smooth and we were thrilled that they gave us access to our room a little earlier than the check-in time. The hotel is located in the heart of Rome, so we were just a few steps from restaurants, tourist attractions, and the hustle and bustle of the city.
Our room:
Ou room was quite small, which we knew is common in Europe. The bed took up most of the room, however, the bathroom was relatively spacious compared. We were not fans of the bed, as it was a double. I am 5’9 and Paul is 6’4, so it was quite cramped. In addition to the uncomfortable mattress, the pillows were pancakes, so we requested a few extra be brought to our room. The shower leaked quite a bit, but other than that, the room was clean. We ended up sleeping for almost 12 hours the first night so we could catch up on sleep before a big day of exploring.

Amenties:
There isn’t a lot going on at Hotel Barberini, but there is a rooftop bar that we enjoyed a drink at the first evening. It has beautiful views of the city and a pretty good selection of drinks and food. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to try nearby, so the lack of onsite options was not an issue for us.
The hotel also has umbrellas for guests in the lobby, which ended up being a lifesaver the last day in Rome. It was down pouring when we ventured out for breakfast, so having umbrellas available was a very nice touch.
Overall thoughts:
Hotel Barberini serves it’s purpose as a clean place to get some rest while in Rome. Don’t expect to be wowed by the rooms or onsite amenities. When in Rome you’re likely spending more time out and about than in your hotel, so this is a great option that is budget friendly and centrally located.
